Have we found the best sausage roll in Sydney?
On our recent bike ride to Avalon Scott spotted Sylvia and Fran’s The Upper Crust in Collary – he has a creepy 6th sense for finding bakery treats. There was a constant stream of people going into the bakery and coming out greedily stuffing their face into oil-stained paper bags, a good sign indeed – we began to wonder, could Sydney’s best sausage roll be inside?
It was late in the day at this point, and Sylvia and Fran’s had almost sold out of everything. Thankfully there were a few sausage rolls (the vegetable pie looked particularly amazing too). We opted for the cheese and bacon sausage roll.
Eating the best sausage roll in Sydney
We got one to share, a decision we both regretted instantly after the first bite through the delicious buttery flaky pastry. This was mouth heaven. Even now as I type I am imagining the goodness on my mind-tongue. There was a layer of cheese and then a lovely strip of bacon on top of the sausage meat all wrapped in that wonderful pastry. A squirt of tomato sauce perfected it. It was a struggle having to give Scott his half, I may have cried a little. Bye bye my perfect sausage roll.
I don’t think the USA has sausage rolls, so this was a triumphant farewell to one of my favourite snacks and possibly the best sausage roll in Sydney. I’d have to eat them all to find out, anyone care to sponsor me?
